Biography:
Daniel was born in San Francisco, California
in 1968. He was raised in an area called the
Western Addition, better known as the Fillmore.
At the age of 13, Daniel would be kicked out
of middle school, and at the age of 15 would
also be kicked out of high school. These unfortunate
early experiences, would be the beginning of
Daniels’s all out rebellious attitude
toward society, which would lead him to a brief
lifestyle of crime from selling drugs, gang-banging
and violence.
From
1986/87, Daniel organized two street gangs in
the Fillmore area. The Midnight mob and the
KOP Family. Nearly four years later, in 1991,
Daniel would be arrested for a first-degree
robbery/burglary, possession of firearm, and
gang organizing conspiracies. He would later
then serve a three year sentence in San Quentin
Prison, and Avenal State Prison. Daniel was
paroled on August 3, 1992, and says with the
help of Almighty God, he was finally able to
transform himself, and begin the journey toward
accepting what he calls...”The Undeniable
Truth, change is the only Reality, in our Universe.”
His
determination toward change has increased over
the years, as Daniel has been involved in many
historic events, and local community activities.
Daniel participates in the Crips & Bloods
truce, called in 1993 in Los Angeles, California,
at the L.A. sports Arena. He was also a local
organizer with the (LOC) Local Organizing Committee,
and before attending the historic Million Man
March event, in October of 1995, in Washington
D.C. In addition Daniel got involved in local
politics, running as a write-in candidate, for
a Supervisor position, for the Western Addition
district-5 San Francisco Election of the year
2000.
Currently,
Daniel still resides in San Francisco. He is
an executive member of the African American
Community Policing Relations Board, (AACPRB)
which is a grassroots organization, that helps
create a healthy dialogue
between law enforcement and the community, on
issues relating to the SF Police Department’s
procedures, policies, and protocols.
Daniel
is also a member and affiliate with numberless
other organizations, such as: The NAACP, Brothers
Against Guns (BAG), the King-Garvey Cooperative
Committee, and the ACLU. In addition, Daniel
is the co-coordinator, for the Western Addition’s
Neighborhood Emergency Response Team, (NERT)
of the San Francisco Fire Department.
Daniel
says now, he would like to share his story with
the entire world, in particular the youth on
how to change their life, when all odds are
against you. Recently, Daniel has teamed-up
with District Supervisor to spearhead a re-population
drive to bring back African American to San
Francisco, by co-sponsoring a resolution, to
honor Marcus Garvey, recognizing August 17th,
every year in San Francisco as “Marcus
Garvey Day”. The resolution is also proposing
the remaining of Eddy Street in San Francisco,
to Marcus Garvey Way.
